ALDEBARAN, A COMPETITIVE CARD GAME
AN ORIGINAL 2-4 PLAYER EXPERIENCE
Aldebaran (the Follower) is a duelling card game where you discover card synergies to beat enemy rulers between the moon's phases.
Compete against other rulers while protecting your own with cards that are playable during specific phases of the moon. Earn and spend Gold, your main resource, to play powerful cards against an enemy's tower or ruler. You can also shore up your defences or discard cards to accumulate resources. Victory relies on careful health and card management, picking the right risks, and a sprinkle of luck.
Aldebaran draws inspiration from the rich contributions to astronomy from ancient Arab astronomers, with every card named after Arabic star names assigned by the International Astronomical Union.Β
Rules:
Each player has a tower and a ruler with different health bars. Direct damage hits the tower first before harming the ruler. Certain cards can bypass the tower to strike the ruler directly.
Drop the other rulers to zero health to win.
Each player starts with 6 cards. You can play a card, skip a turn, or return a card and redraw.
Redrawing a random card gives you +1 Gold as a bonus. You can omit the bonus to redraw a card from a specific Phase.
Each suit of cards can only be used during a specific phase. Cards can raise your stats or lower those of your foes. They may cost Gold, a resource earned by redrawing cards or using certain defence cards.
There are four Phases: 1 (play again), 2 (defence), 3 (offence), and 4 (ultimate).
The game starts at Phase 1 and shifts after all players take a turn (π π π π π π π).
CURRENT PROGRESS
Here's how Aldebaran looks right now:
Extensive playtesting with the game on its 15th iteration after balance changes and additional improvements.
While early feedback has been positive, I'm still in the process of ironing out minor balance issues.
I will be looking for artists with experience in Arab-inspired illustrations for the cards.
I'm also seeking a publisher to help with marketing, producing, and distributing the card game.
